Inside Desert Afterglow
The choices behind the sound and the world

Desert Afterglow is Aurescape Ambience's first release, a 61-minute mix built from 17 tracks. We wanted the music to feel spacious without losing its rhythm. Warm plucked textures, deep bass and a steady pulse became the focus.
The difficult part was deciding what to leave out. Some ideas had the right atmosphere but lost momentum. Others brought in sharp, ticking percussion that pulled attention away from the melody. Selection, arrangement and editing helped shape those ideas into one continuous mix.
Calm with a pulse
The bass needed warmth and weight, while the rhythm had to keep moving beneath the melody. A section could sound beautiful on its own and still interrupt the mix if its beat disappeared too suddenly.
The recordings began with generative AI, with producer B. Van de Kerkhof guiding selection and revisions through listening. At the handover into Warm Ground, he asked for the second guitar to arrive later, once the first phrase had mostly finished. That feedback shaped the revised overlap, leaving more space between the melodies.
Repeated listening shaped the sequence. Abrupt handovers went back for revision. Longer excerpts helped us judge the transitions in context. The aim was to keep the momentum while allowing each track to bring something different.
One world, seventeen tracks
Desert Afterglow is a continuous mix, not a short loop stretched across an hour. Its tracks share a musical direction, then bring different moments into focus. The sequence moves from Desert Prelude and Warm Ground through Night Garden and Deep Amber, finally arriving at Homecoming.
The sound suggests an imagined desert landscape, with an atmosphere inspired by the Middle East.
The album edition offers a different way to listen. Its 17 standalone versions have their own beginnings and endings, while the continuous mix uses separate edits to connect the tracks. You can choose an individual track or stay with the full sequence.
A place to return to
The visual looks out from a sandstone shelter over an oasis, with warm light on the cliffs and a river winding into the distance. A small traveller sits nearby. Far across the valley stands the Aurescape monolith, two separate forms with an open space between them.
Both remain small within the wider landscape. Water, dust, clouds and light give the scene movement without competing with the music.
